Living with nature

On Thursday it was a lush coral hibiscus plant with 12 or more blossoms at the corner of our back porch...................and then as we enjoyed the early morning over coffee on Friday, I gasped as my gaze fell upon this plant.

This creature is the culprit, jumping the fence during the dark of night for a midnight snack while we slept only a few feet away. In the past, everything we have tried to deter these creatures has failed. Any suggestions anyone?

Our prickly-less prickly pear cactus however escaped the creatures. Perhaps it is too bitter or acidic? At any rate, we have had several blossoms this year on this gigantic succulent that I planted 22 years ago when we moved to Texas.

Oh my goodness! I have heard of people tying jingle bells or mini cowbells on plants. I don't know that I am that patient, but maybe worth a shot?
