"Hi Gigi"

When Betsy and Brendan announced that we were to be grandparents we were delighted and excited that Easter weekend in New Orleans. During those months of anticipation people would ask and I would imagine what I would be called by this dear grandchild. I wasn't ready to be called Grandma or Grandmother or Granny. It made sense to wait and see if a name just happened.

I guess it is often that the first born grandchild of a family is given the honor of naming his or her grandparents. That is what happened for us.

Kyle was 15 months old and the Pearsons had gathered in Phoenix for a family reunion. At one point during the weekend, Kyle walked into a room where I was standing, looked up as he toddled by, and said, "Hi Gigi."

I knew from that moment that Gigi was my name. Grandpa Tom's name is still in transition. Last Christmas, Kyle would call him "Munka" but by April it sounded much like "Gumpa." No matter how it is pronounced, it is music to our ears!

We look forward with anticipation to one day soon when Anna Grace and Wade, in their sweet voices, call us by name as well.
