Happy Birthday Betsy !!!

We didn't really have a due date so we just waited for mother nature to tell us that it was time to head for the hospital in New Ulm. Elizabeth Anne arrived right before midnight. So close to midnight in fact, that the doctor asked if we wanted her birth date recorded as July 19 or July 20. I chose the 19th because my mom's birthday is the 19 of another month.

Her brother welcomed her home by cutting her hair while she slept in the bassinet. Where did he (at the age of 3) get scissors??? Still a mystery to this day. Thankfully, no real damage was done to her head or hair. Having an older brother eliminated the necessity to really talk as early as some children might. Sometime during the summer that she turned two, I buckled her into the child carrier seat behind my seat on the bike. Off we went for a ride following dinner and before bedtime. About half way through the ride I felt her raise her arm and point, saying, "Look mommy, I see the moon." From one - two words minimal to a complete six word sentence. And it was none stop from there forward. = )

She is a great little sister (and I think Matt would agree.) She was born to be a mom - patient, loving, creative, calm and firm. She started dancing at age three and continued through high school. She said she wasn't going to be a RRHS Dragonette so I kept quiet about it. She tried out her freshman year and made the team and we lived & breathed drill/dance team for three years.

This weekend I was going through some old files and came across a file titled Betsy. Inside I found reports cards and miscellaneous saved projects. One piece of paper had an original acrostic poem written in either 3rd or 4th grade by Betsy using her name. (A ballerina adorns the right side of the page. ) The poem follows. Surprisingly, it pretty much describes Betsy still today - some words much more than even then!

Betsy followed her brother to Texas A & M where she met Brendan. They are wonderful parents to three precious children. Many special memories and many more to come.
Happy Birthday Betsy!
