Shake out the money and me fly

Our son Matt is celebrating his first Father's Day since the arrival of AG last July. He took on the role with ease and a steady hand, diving in to doing any of the mundane tasks as well as the fun things like reading and playing and feeding her avocado and yogurt. I'm pretty sure that AG has him wrapped around her tiny little finger! One thing that I am guessing Matt thought up on his own when "rough housing" with AG was to hold her upside down by her ankles and saying "shake the money out!" Pretty cute playful daddy daughter time.

Brendan, our son in law, has about a year and half more experience in fatherhood on Matt. Isn't it just a natural part of being a dad to be the one to play and rough house with the children? Brendan is a pro at hide n seek, chase, and "me fly." When Kyle was 18 months to 2 years, one of his favorite playtime things was to have Brendan balance Kyle on the bottom of his feet, take his hands and bring his feet up into the air (Brendan is lying down for this) so Kyle could 'fly!" Such fun, so thrilling it must be for one so young. I have no doubt that Wade will one day soon be saying "me fly!" to Brendan.

My dad died when I was starting my senior year in high school. I struggle to remember what his voice sounded like. But I can remember the twinkle he would have in his dark brown eyes. I miss not knowing him as an adult.

Dale Pearson, Tom's dad, was my surrogate dad. He was quiet, steady, honest, loving and a man of faith. He would have been such a fun great grandpa! We miss him so. He truly enjoyed his own grandchildren. He raised three remarkable sons, the oldest being my husband of 37 years. Tom is one of those guys who will go out of his way to help anyone in need. He has modeled for our children honesty, hospitality, commitment, love, patience and faith. He talks to our lab mix Colby like Colby is a person. He bales me out of situations at work and spends time on Father's Day building things like backdrops and corrals for vacation Bible School (that starts tomorrow.) He is happy with peanut butter and jelly (or sweet pickle) sandwiches. God knew what he was doing when Tom came into my life.

Happy Father's Day!
